Week 36: Crews Taking Steps to Protect 1929 Building

As reconstruction work at the Public Safety Complex site heads into November, contractor crews are putting safeguards in place to protect the historic 1929 Building, the elegant and original St. Mary's Hospital building.

Blount Excavating Inc. has begun excavating soil prior to the Central Wing foundation wall being pinned. Subsurface Construction Co. LLC will be installing temporary pins in the foundation wall as a means of holding the slope in place as the remainder of the Central Wing is demolished.

Cutline: The Central Wing concrete foundation wall is being pinned to protect the 1929 Building during the next round of C-Wing demolition.

Renascent crews, meanwhile, are continuing mass demolition of the West Wing and the Marian Wing. They also will continue to process and sort construction debris and recycle metals from buildings being razed.

This week and next, Environmental Abatement Inc. will work on the lower-level demolition in the Professional Office Building (elevator lobbies and closets) as well as the POB stairwells and lobbies.

EAI also will continue to remove equipment from the Central Annex mechanical room and work in the Women's Pavilion mechanical room.

Messer Construction is demolishing a connector corridor between the Women's Pavilion and the Central Wing Annex. Messer also is continuing with general site cleanup.
