Two Weeks Until The Neighborhood Conference

Are you registered for The Neighborhood Conference? If not, register before noon on Monday, May 13. That will reserve you a meal ticket and help us generate a nice name tag for each participant

Do you know how you are going to get to the Conference? There are several ways to travel there, one of which is by KAT bus and it is FREE! All you have to do is get on the bus nearest you, say that you are going to The Neighborhood Conference, and they will let you ride there for free. Once you get to the conference, you can stop by the KAT booth and receive a return home bus pass.

You can also carpool with a neighbor. If you are driving, parking is available in Locust Street Garage, Market Street Garage, 11th Street Garage, and the Poplar Lot. The Poplar Lot will likely be reserved for people with disabilities who will be provided additional transportation by golf cart (provided by Parks and Rec.).
Have you heard about the nominations? We have six great Diana Conn, Good Neighbor of the Year Nominees, as follows: Liz Diviesti, Katy Hawley, Douglas James Miller Jr., Donna Teeters, Deborah Thomas, & Christine Winton.

Seven neighborhoods will also be honored during: Historic Fourth and Gill, Residence of Eastport, Riverhill Gateway Neighborhood Association, South Woodlawn Neighborhood Association, The Highlands HOA, Timbercrest Neighborhood Association, and the Wesley Neighbors/West Hills Community Association.

Did we tell you that there are over 80 booths to visit? We consistently get feedback that this is what neighbors love the most…..networking at the booths. There are City departments represented, County departments, non-profits, and several of our sponsors that will have booths. Direct assistance from service-providers will be available. For example, if you have questions about trees in your yard, you should visit with Trees Knoxville. , Another possibility is that your neighborhood may be having safety issues. In that case, you can visit with the representatives at the KPD booth and get suggestions. There will be numerous organizations that can provide assistance.

Did we mention that there are four important workshops?
1. Engage All of Your Neighbors: People are constantly trying to get young people, refugees, or students involved in their organizations. Come hear directly from representatives from these groups about strategies to get them engaged in their community involved.
2. Create Safer Streets: David Massey and Don Lindsey will present the Neighborhood Traffic Safety Programs’ newest education component.
3. Celebrate Our Diversity: You have the opportunity to hear from a new diversity panel about ways to include representatives from many demographics
4. Turn NIMBY into YIMBY: Understanding Affordable Housing. If you have any interest in affordable housing, Becky Wade, Director of Community Development for the City of Knoxville, will speak about the latest updates on the issue.

We want you to be inspired by what you hear, learn from others, and go back to your neighborhoods feeling ready with new ideas. Join us at the Seventh Annual Neighborhood Conference on Saturday, May 18, 2019. We look forward to seeing you there.
