NAC to Discuss How to Recognize Neighborhood Organizations

The Neighborhood Advisory Council (NAC) will continue to discuss how to recognize neighborhood organizations utilizing best practices.

This NAC meeting will be Wednesday, Aug. 14, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at the Cansler YMCA, 616 Jessamine St.

All are welcome to attend. NAC members will discuss the topic first and will take comments from the public, time permitting.

Best Practices for neighborhoods is an initiative to recognize neighborhood groups that do an exemplary job representing the needs of their community. The NAC has been working with the Office of Neighborhoods over the last couple of years to create a recognition program.

NAC members are appointed by the Mayor to:

1) Give advice and feedback on the programs and policies of the Office of Neighborhoods;
2) Bring neighborhood issues and concerns to the attention of the Mayor and City Administration;
3) Propose to the Administration responses and solutions to address these concerns; and
4) Serve as a sounding board for City initiatives and proposals affecting neighborhoods.

The NAC advises and provides input to the Mayor and City staff. As a matter of policy, it does not advise Knoxville City Council, Knoxville-Knox County Planning and other elected and appointed bodies; however, members may speak on behalf of their neighborhoods or as individuals.
