This week, work crews have made significant progress on the River’s Edge riverwalk project. On Monday, the contractor poured about 90 feet of concrete for the first section of retaining wall. The next section of wall is being formed and will be scheduled later in the week for a concrete pour.
In addition, utility poles located on the north-south leg of Island Home Avenue have been removed, and soil has been stabilized and erosion control measures put in place on the property behind the railroad tracks.
River’s Edge, a 134-unit apartment complex, represents a $14 million private investment on the South Waterfront, to be complemented by $2.5 million in public infrastructure - an 800-foot-long public riverwalk and a new public road, Splendid View Circle.
The existing overhead utility lines and poles along Island Home Avenue are being relocated to make room for bike lanes and on-street parking. Knoxville Area Transit also will position two bus shelters as part of the project.
