First-day Photo Gallery of Newly-opened Top Floors of State Street Garage
Here's the scene from early this morning, as the fencing was removed and the two new decks of the State Street Garage opened up to parkers:
The expanded State Street Garage now accommodates 1,600 vehicles.
Here's the view from the top floor overlooking State Street.
The City's investment: $11 million.
A new elevator at the northeast corner of the garage connects to Central Street - a major step forward in terms of improving accessibility. Someone can move from Gay Street to Central, using a pedestrian walkway over State Street and avoiding the steep climb up or down the hill.
Heading to Market Square or Gay Street? State Street Garage offers some of the most convenient 1,600 of the 10,500 public parking spaces in the downtown area. Free nights and weekends!
View looking eastward....
... and the view looking south toward Church Avenue and South Knoxville.
