Blue Ridge Mountain Sports in association with Mountain Hardwear will be hosting world class mountaineer and blind athlete, Erik Weihenmayer at 7:00pm, Monday September 25, 2006 at the Carolyn P. Brown Memorial University Center Auditorium, 1502 W. Cumberland Ave. SW, Knoxville, TN.
In the spring of 2001, Erik Weihenmayer accomplished something most humans would not even attempt: he summited Mount Everest, the highest peak in the world and completed his 7-year quest to climb the Seven Summits--the highest mountains on each of the seven continents, a feat only 100 mountaineers have accomplished. This feat was all the more amazing because Erik is blind and has been since the age of 13.In addition, Erik has done big wall climbs of Yosemite's El Capitan, ice-climbed a 3,000 foot waterfall in the Canadian Rockies, and in 2003 completed the 457 mile Primal Quest Adventure Race through California's Sierra Nevada mountains. Erik inspires audiences to have the vision to dream big, the courage to reach for near-impossible goals and the grit, determination, and ingenuity to transform our lives into "something miraculous."Tickets are $3.00 and on sale now at Blue Ridge Mountain Sports - Village Green Center & Blue Ridge Mountain Sports - Kingston Pike Shopping Center, the University of Tennessee Central Ticket Office, or at the door the night of the program. All proceeds and donations benefit the Tennessee Unit of Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic. For more information please contact Jay Settles, Blue Ridge Mountain Sports, Village Green Center 865-675-3010.
