On Friday, Feb. 25 at 1:30 p.m. there will be an unveiling and dedication ceremony celebrating the newly-renamed LeFlore Avenue, in honor of the late Robert C. (Bob) LeFlore in the Lonsdale Community.
The event will take place at the corner of Gap Road and LeFlore Avenue formerly known as Bonny Avenue.
Councilman Charles Thomas, Councilman Joe Bailey, Lois LeFlore and Melvenia Smith will speak.
City Council approved renaming Bonny Avenue to LeFlore Avenue last year in honor of Mr. LeFlore.
Robert C. LeFlore was a 1947 Knoxville College graduate who served in the U.S. Navy during World War II before beginning a long career as a teacher in the City of Knoxville School System. He was also very involved in community organizations and activities aimed at benefiting the Lonsdale Community.
Mr. LeFlore died in 2006.
