 Special Events Delivers Summer Fun
Who works the hardest at having the most fun at work?
Bets are on the Office of Special Events.
This time of year—in all kinds of weather-- their days are packed with a variety of ways with engaging residents with the splendors of the city.
On Wednesdays this summer, you can find Director Kyndra Brewer, Deputy Director Elaine Frank and Assistant Rachel White engaging children and their families in the Kid A’Riffic Fun in the Park series of activities in City parks.
And on Tuesday nights, some of the best jazz musicians in any city on the planet play in Market Square. For free.
What does our Special Events team have on their agenda next? Hint: it’s red, white and blue.

City Council passed Mayor Kincannon’s 2022/23 budget that supports each of you and the services you provide.
Implementing the findings of the compensation study all at once, will have an immediate impact as well as generate lasting change at the City, for decades to come.

Longtime Employees Honored at Appreciation Luncheon
Just over 45 years ago, Brenda Conn (Law) was a new high school grad when she began her career with the City in Plumbing Inspections. That was back when they were located in the old City Hall building. After a detour into wastewater, Brenda joined the Law Department, in her words, “at least 30 years ago.”
And Lisa Wilson (Parks and Recreation) will mark her 46th year with the City in August. Her colleagues and her kids in the after-school program celebrated her with cupcakes and a game of whiffle ball.
Brenda and Lisa were the two City employees with the longest service records honored at the recent Employee Appreciation Luncheon held at the Civic Coliseum. Watch the video to see tidbits of the celebration of employees who marked significant work anniversaries above 20 years in 2021.
Facilities Shows its True Colors
 A scene that served as a colorful backdrop for the 40th anniversary of the World’s Fair in May will be an ideal selfie setting for Pride Month in June and all days that call for vibrant rainbow hues.
Earlier this spring, the City’s Public Service Facilities crew painted the underside of the Clinch Avenue viaduct, nine arches to coordinate with the sky blue arch already painted with Kesley Montague’s COVID-19 memorial mural.
We were excited to feature this huge and beautiful project on the City’s blog and our Facebook page during Public Works Week, May 15-21.

 This month’s mystery employee has a lot of experience at the City of Knoxville.
She’s worked for the City 27 1/2 of the 49 years she’s lived in East Tennessee. And She’s spent that time being a good leader, a woman of faith and a helper to everyone who comes into her path.
And if you want to gift her a treat for her years of service and for being helpful, make it her favorite -- a sweet potato pie.
