Mayor Bill Haslam will host a groundbreaking for a new Food City Superstore at Leslie Street and Western Avenue at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 2.
The Food City will serve Mechanicsville and surrounding neighborhoods, as well as the growing number of people living downtown. The store will be located in the Center City Business Neighborhood, a City of Knoxville redevelopment area. Empowerment Zone funds are being used to prepare the site for businesses that provide jobs and services in the community.
