Posted: 10/14/2008
Mayor Bill Haslam, Tom Kimbis - Director of the Solar Cities Program, U.S. Department of Energy and representatives from the Tennessee Valley Authority, Knoxville Utilities Board, Oak Ridge National Laboratory and the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy will participate in the City of Knoxville's Solar Cities Project kickoff event on Friday, October 24 at 10 a.m. in the Tennessee Amphitheater at World’s Fair Park.

The Solar Cities Project is an effort to encourage the creation of a sustainable solar energy infrastructure in Knoxville.

The City of Knoxville was selected as one of 12 Solar American Cities earlier this year by DOE which, along with TVA, will provide financial support for city initiatives designed to reduce barriers to the development of solar power here.
