Mayor to Walk This Way

Posted: 10/07/2008
Mayor Bill Haslam will take part in Bearden Elementary School's Fifth Annual "Walk to School" celebration. It's part of the "Walk This Way" event organized by the Safe Kids Coalition of the Greater Knox Area. East Tennessee Children's Hospital is the lead agency of the coalition.

The walk begins in the parking lot of the Bearden United Methodist Church at 4407 Sutherland Avenue and proceeds along the Bearden Village Greenway on Sutherland before ending in the Bearden Elementary School Gymnasium.

Sign-in begins at 6:45 a.m. at Bearden United Methodist Church and the walk starts at 7 a.m. on Wednesday, October 8.

The goal of this event is to promote walking to school and pedestrian safety as well as the health and environmental benefits of walking.

In addition to the walk at Bearden there will be similar events Wednesday at Fountain City and West Hills Elementary schools in Knoxville and at Robertsville Middle School in Anderson County. More information about Safe Kids of the Greater Knox Area is available at www.etch.com/safekids.cfm.
