Knoxville Police Dedicate Memorial To Honor Officers

Posted: 05/15/2009
Knoxville Mayor Bill Haslam and Police Chief Sterling Owen dedicated a memorial to honor Knoxville Police Department Officers.

The memorial is the culmination of hard work on behalf of employees and thousands of citizens.

The drive to raise money for the memorial began in 2003 when special dinners were held for Honda Hoot visitors. Honda Riders of America advertised the dinners in all their materials, made it an official Hoot event, collected the money, and then donated the proceeds to the department. The department raised $20,000.00 for the memorial.

In addition, several area companies worked with the department to help construct the memorial including Ray Bell Construction, Brimmer Monument Company, and Allen Sign Company. The design work for the memorial was donated by Alex Roehl, the son of Knoxville Police Deputy Chief, Bill Roehl.

Knoxville Police Department
Chief Owen said, "We can not thank enough our community partners and all the Honda Hoot visitors who so graciously donated their time and effort to help turn our dream into a reality. This memorial is something that not only our officers can enjoy and appreciate, but the entire Knoxville community can take pride in."
