KPD Scheduled for CALEA Assessment

KPD trainingThe Knoxville Police Department Law Enforcement Training Academy is scheduled for an on-site assessment as part of a program to achieve accreditation by verifying it meets professional standards.

The assessment team reviewing the Knoxville Police Department Law Enforcement Training Academy consists of Chief Philip Potter of the Huntersville, NC Police Department and Colonel Phillip Kasten of the Carroll County, MD Sheriff's Office.

Administered by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA), the accreditation program requires academies to comply with state-of-the-art standards in four basic areas: policy and procedures, administration, operations, and support services.

CALEAAs part of the on-site assessment, members of the community and agency employees are invited to offer comments to the Assessment Team by calling 865-215-1312 between the hours of 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. on July 23, 2013.

Telephone comments are limited to 10 minutes and must address the academy's ability to comply with accreditation standards.

Copies of the standards are available at the Accreditation Unit at the Knoxville Police Department, 800 Howard Baker Jr. Avenue, Knoxville, Tennessee and the Training Academy, 220 Carrick Street, Knoxville, Tennessee. The academy contact is Lt. Virgil Hubbard at 865-215-7522.
