KUB Named Tree Line USA Utility for Twelfth Consecutive Year

Posted: 04/25/2013
The Arbor Day Foundation has once again designated KUB as a Tree Line USA® utility. The foundation has named KUB a Tree Line USA utility each year since 2001 for following best practices in utility arboriculture through quality tree care, annual worker training, tree planting and public education.

The Knoxville Tree Board hosted an Arbor Day Celebration at Ijams Nature Center on Friday, March 1. Liz Hannah, KUB's lead forester, and Mike Patterson, System Operations manager, accepted the Tree Line USA award at the Ijams event.

As one of only 151 Tree Line USA utilities across the nation, KUB is committed to pruning practices that support safe, reliable electric service and help preserve the health of the tree. Trees add beauty and life to our community, as well as helping to conserve energy and clean our air and water.

"Trees are a critical part of urban landscapes all across the United States," said John Rosenow, founder and chief executive of the Arbor Day Foundation. "Service providers like Knoxville Utilities Board show that taking care of urban trees is good for business, for customers and for the broader community."

KUB serves nearly 200,000 electric customers and maintains more than 5,000 miles of electric lines. KUB appreciates its customers' cooperation as it continues its vegetation management responsibilities to promote safety and support reliable electric service. For more information on KUB's tree pruning and vegetation management services, visit www.kub.org.

KUB is a municipal utility serving Knox and parts of seven adjacent counties and provides electric, gas, water, and wastewater services to more than 439,000 customers.
