Downtown Circulation and Mobility Plan Public Meeting Aug. 13

August 5, 2014 - The City of Knoxville's professional design consultants, Kimley-Horn and Associates Inc. and Toole Design Group, will host a second public meeting for the Downtown Circulation and Mobility Plan on August 13 at 5:30 p.m. in the East Tennessee History Center located at 601 S. Gay St. The consultants will review recommendations, and public comments are welcomed.

The plan will develop multimodal improvement strategies that will prioritize certain corridors within the Central Business Improvement District. Assessments will include:

Along the Gay Street corridor, determining a preferred combination of on-street parking versus auxiliary turn lanes, ways to enhance traffic signs and pavement markings that direct motorists, and improved signalization Determining a preferred combination of one-way and two-way streets for both north-south and east-west movements in downtown Movement of vehicles through downtown and/or to selected destinations downtown Transit service within and through downtown Bicycle access through downtown and/or to selected destinations downtown Adequate on-street parking at or near land uses that rely on on-street parkingPedestrian connectivity within the CBID and also pedestrian connectivity with residential areas adjacent to downtown

The area covered for this plan - expected to be complete by September 2014 - is bounded by Depot Avenue, the Tennessee River, Hall of Fame Drive and 11th Street.
