The Records Unit strongly advises that you call ahead to confirm availability and cost of reports.

The Records Unit is located at:

Records office hours are Monday thru Friday between the hours of 8:00 am and 4:00 pm. All copies of reports are .15 per page.

Beginning July 1, 2019, Tennessee passed a law that only persons directly involved, the insurance company of involved persons or legal representation of said parties may obtain an unredacted report. Request from non-involved persons will receive a redacted report.


The process for obtaining an Accident Report:

1. You may bring your blue Accident Information card and appear in person at our Records window.
2. You may mail in your request to the address listed above. Request via mail must contain either a copy of the blue Accident Information card, or a letter stating the report number, date, location and drivers name. The payment in form of check or money order made out for the exact amount and a self-addressed stamped envelope for return. 
3. The state now is offering a website called www.purchasetncrash.gov, where accident reports can be obtained online. This website has a fee of $10.00.


The process for obtaining Incident Reports:

1. You may bring your white Case Information card and appear in person at our Records window.
2. You may mail in your request to the address listed above. Request via mail must contain either a copy of the white Case Information card or a letter stating the report number, date, location and victim's name. The payment in form of check or money order made out for the exact amount and a self-addressed stamped envelope for return. 

Criminal Background checks are $10 cash or check. The Records Unit requires a government issued photo ID and a social security card in order to complete the check.


Submitting an Online Video Request:

Knoxville Police Department body-worn or in-camera video can be requested online at the link below.

If you have not created a login and password previously, click the Sign Up button.

Once logged in, click Begin Video Request and complete all of the required fields. For the Video Copy Preference section, select the Download Link option.

If there are more than five officers involved in your request, include the names of the other officers in the Incident Details section.


Additional Information:

The base cost per officer video is $10 and must be paid by either cash, check or money order made out to the Knoxville Police Department.

Per Knoxville City Code § 2-362(a)(4), fees to receive copies of KPD videos are based on the time required to fulfill the request.

For each recording, ten dollars ($10) for the first hour of production time (including search, retrieval and redaction, if necessary), fifteen dollars ($15) for the second hour of production time, and twenty-five dollars ($25) per hour for each subsequent hour of production time.

Once the request is complete, you will receive an email that includes the total cost of the video request. Once payment is received, a downloadable link will be sent to you via email. 

Requests are completed in the order in which they are received and minimum turnaround time is 10 working days.
