Downtown Streets Closed for Rossini Festival, JDRF One Walk

Posted: 04/20/2016
Knoxville Opera’s Rossini Festival

The Rossini Festival is an 11-hour international street fair that, on one Saturday each April, draws 100,000 people to downtown Knoxville. But to put on Saturday’s legacy festival, Gay Street and other downtown streets will be closed, starting Friday night, April 22.

These downtown streets will be closed, beginning at 11 p.m. Friday, April 22:

• Gay Street, between Summit Hill Drive and Church Avenue.
• Wall Avenue, between Walnut and Gay streets.
• Union Avenue, between Walnut and State streets.
• Clinch Avenue, between Walnut and State streets.
• Church Avenue, between Walnut and State streets.
• Market Street, between Cumberland and Union avenues.

There also will be temporary no-parking zones on these streets, beginning at 10 p.m. Friday. The streets will reopen at 5 a.m. Sunday, April 24.

JDRF One Walk

The JDRF One Walk is set to begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 23, at World’s Fair Park. The event aims to raise $500,000 for juvenile diabetes research.

Anticipate rolling street closures to accommodate the fund-raising awareness event. Walkers will start at World’s Fair Park, head west on Clinch Avenue into Fort Sanders, turn left onto 16th Street and continue onto Volunteer Boulevard, then turn left onto Lake Loudon Boulevard to Neyland Drive.

Walkers will head east on Neyland (a westbound lane will be closed) to the entrance to the Second Creek Greenway, which they’ll take to return to World’s Fair Park.
