KnoxGives Seeks 2,500 Volunteers for Community Service Projects

Posted: 09/17/2019
KnoxGivesVolunteer East Tennessee – with support from the United Way of Greater Knoxville, Knoxville Mayor Madeline Rogero and Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs – is inviting kind-hearted volunteers and nonprofit organizations serving Knox County to participate in KnoxGives, a day of service on Friday, Nov. 8, 2019 and The Big Give, a day of giving on Dec. 3, 2019.

Nonprofits can go to www.volunteeretn.org/knoxgives and click on the “Submit a KnoxGives Volunteer Project” button to register a service project in need of some helping hands. That can be a park cleanup, a neighborhood beautification project, delivery of meals, a book reading with children, stuffing envelopes, assembling care packages and more – there’s much good work to be done.

The website also encourages people to sign up as volunteers or to sponsor a project.

The aim is to engage 2,500 volunteers and match them up with service projects with 75 non-profit organizations on a single day. KnoxGives will also kick off the fundraising season leading up to The Big Give.

Pilot Flying J, KnoxGives’ presenting sponsor, will be deploying more than 350 employee volunteers on Nov. 8, 2019. They will be backed by other corporate volunteer teams, civic groups, church groups, families, and teams of public employees from the City of Knoxville and Knox County.

“Knoxvillians are compassionate by nature and always ready to lend help when needed,” Mayor Rogero said. “KnoxGives will make a powerful statement: Look at the tremendous volume of good we can do in just one day when we all pull together and focus our energy on meeting specific challenges.”

“The amount of pride our residents have for our community is incredible,” Mayor Jacobs said. “To have some of our largest corporations along with so many community groups making it a priority to improve it is a testament to our volunteer spirit.”

The communitywide day of service on Nov. 8, 2019 kicks off the giving season and will culminate in The Big Give on Dec. 3, 2019, Giving Tuesday. The Big Give will be an opportunity for non-profits to band together and raise funds during the biggest giving day of the year.
