Residents in neighborhoods surrounding the Grainger Avenue Bridge, located near the intersection of Grainger Avenue and Sixth Avenue, can expect to hear short, intermittent blasts on Monday, Feb. 5, as crews move forward in the bridge replacement project.
The project contractor, Charles Blalock and Sons, is coordinating with the Engineering Department and the City Fire Marshal to ensure that all blasting regulations are followed. Each small, localized blast that takes place will be covered to prevent potential debris hazards.
The project will include replacement of the existing bridge and adding a new sidewalk. The project also will widen the bridge opening, which will help alleviate flooding issues. New gas and water lines also will be installed.
Work on the $1.9 million bridge replacement project began in November 2017 and is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
