Timbercrest resident Kirk Anderson was named this year’s Diana Conn Good Neighbor of the Year before a crowd of approximately 600 people at Saturday’s 2018 Neighborhood Conference, held at Hotel Knoxville (formerly Knoxville Marriott). The City’s Office of Neighborhoods produces the event. 

Timbercrest Neighborhood Association member James Newbill accepted the award on Anderson’s behalf. Newbill and his wife, Clara, who have lived in the neighborhood for more than 50 years, nominated Anderson based on his generosity and frequent assistance, including one incident described in a proclamation from Mayor Madeline Rogero: 

“Whereas Kirk Anderson and his brother, realizing that two neighbors were having difficulty exiting their car after a doctor’s office visit, carried one of them from the car into the house, up the stairs and into her bed; Kirk stayed with the couple until they were well enough to be left on their own.”

All nominees demonstrated the superior qualities exemplified by the late Diana Conn, for whom the award was named and given posthumously. Members of the Old Sevier Community commended her as a generous, caring and devoted neighbor.

The Neighborhood Conference connects residents with area service organizations, elected officials and candidates for office, as well as neighborhood leaders and organizers.
