The Destination Imagination Global Finals kicked off today, May 23, 2018 with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Knoxville Convention Center.
The four day event focuses on fostering creativity and curiosity through hands-on challenges, camps, and workshops.
The events will host more than 17,000 people including 8,000 students from over 45 U.S. states and 15 countries.
Ten plus events culminate in what DI calls “the world’s largest celebration of creativity.”
Student teams will compete in challenges that test their technical, scientific, engineering, fine arts, improvisational, and service-learning abilities.
Teams check in on Wednesday, May 23 and competition events will run from Thursday through Saturday.
Destination Imagination’s mission is to inspire and equip students to become the next generation of innovators and leaders.
The volunteer-led nonprofit organization teaches students the creative process through challenges in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, the arts, and service-learning.
In its 30 years, more than 1.5 million kids have participated in DI events.
