On Saturday June 2, 2018, Safety City will be hosting the Safety City Summer Kick Off from 10:00 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Safety City located at 165 S. Concord Street.
Fun event for the whole family. Children will attend a short mandatory class on bicycle safety and helmet fitting and then they will practice their skills throughout Safety City - a miniature city complete with buildings, street signs, street lights and even the Sunsphere!
The goal of the event is to educate children about bicycle safety and provide families with information about fun summer activities that are available in Knoxville.
The event is free to the public and everyone is welcome.
Children attending the Summer Kick Off must be accompanied by an adult and should bring a bicycle and a helmet. The last class will start at 1:30 p.m.
This event also kicks off Safety City Summer Hours. From June 4 to July 19, 2018, Safety City will be open to the public ONLY on Mondays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 12 noon and 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
These special public hours/days will only be in effect thru the months of June and July. Safety City will be closed on July 4th.
Families may bring their own bikes with helmets, battery-powered cars, non-motorized scooters (no skateboards), doll buggies or walking shoes to Safety City to have open riding and play. There are two playgrounds with picnic areas adjacent to Safety City: one toddler and one designed for children ages 5-9.
