Knoxville Mayor Madeline Rogero and Police Chief Eve Thomas promoted Ron Green to the rank of Deputy Chief for the Knoxville Police Department.
Deputy Chief Green began his career with KPD in 1993. Green is the fourth member of Class 93A to attain the rank of Deputy Chief, and he is the second African-American in the city’s history to achieve that rank.*
Chief Green has spent his 25-year career in Patrol. He was promoted to Sergeant in 1998, Lieutenant in 2005, and Captain in 2014. During his tenure with KPD, Deputy Chief Green has been a member of the Motor Unit and has been the Traffic Services Coordinator. While Captain, Green served as the Patrol Support Commander before being assigned as the East District Commander.
Chief Green has a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Liberty University, is a 2003 graduate of the Northwestern School of Police Staff and Command, a graduate of the 2007 FBI National Academy Session 231, and a graduate of the 2014 Police Executive Research Forum (PERF) Senior Management Institute for Police. Deputy Chief Green is currently seeking his Master’s degree in Human Services Counseling.
Chief Thomas said, “Ron has amassed more than 25 years of policing experience here at KPD, and without a doubt, he is ready to take on this new challenge.”
Mayor Madeline Rogero praised Green’s longtime dedication and commitment to public service.
“Ron is an experienced Patrol veteran who has served with distinction,” Mayor Rogero said. “This promotion is well-deserved.”
Chief Eve Thomas and Deputy Chief Ron Green will both be promoted during a special ceremony at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, August 13, 2018, in the Reception Hall at the Knoxville Civic Coliseum.
