On Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2019, the Propane Education & Research Council, a national nonprofit organization, is naming the City of Knoxville as the 2019 Green Leadership City Award recipient.
This award is given to one community nationwide each year in recognition of a commitment to the health of its citizens and the environment.
The ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. at Suttree Landing Park, 1001 Waterfront Dr.
In an effort to create more sustainable city fleets, the City of Knoxville started transitioning its mowers to propane in 2015. As of June 2019, 18 of the city’s 25 commercial mowers were fueled by propane, with plans to continue transitioning equipment to propane. The city has one of the largest propane mower fleets in the state of Tennessee.
As part of the recognition event, PERC will present Knoxville’s CAC Beardsley Community Farm with a $5,000 donation to benefit Knoxville’s continuing efforts to increase the city’s sustainability. The event will include speeches, propane mower demonstrations, and a “thank you” food truck lunch for city crews.
