Thank you, Public Service crews!!!
Knoxville had seen a white Christmas only 7 times in the last 110 years, but that is exactly what we got to close out 2020! After not having a real snow the previous 2 years in Knoxville, it was nice to knock the rust off, but I personally could have done without the timing.
While our unbelievable Police and Fire department crews have set schedules to work holidays, snow on Christmas means an unscheduled event for our employees. So while most families loved the white Christmas, several of our dedicated Public Service and Fleet employees spent Christmas Eve and Christmas Day at work.
And it wasn’t just the snow and ice on the roads; the heavy wet snow caused around 30 downed trees at the height of the storm, which made many roads impassable.
I cannot thank them enough for their hard work throughout Christmas Eve night!
In addition, we also have such a great leadership team that several of our managers and foreman came in on Christmas Day so their employees could stay home.
There were multiple sacrifices that were made this year, and many residents of the City and myself cannot thank our conscientious and professional employees enough!
