Kelly Drummond
HR Director
|
Kelly Drummond started as the City’s HR Director on Jan. 4, 2021.
Drummond’s office is located on the 5th floor of the City County Building in Room 564. Former Civil Service employee Michelle Black is also working in that office and is assisting Drummond with her transition to the City.
Drummond is a familiar face around our community having served nearly 20 years at the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Tennessee Valley, most recently as VP of HR and Leadership Development.
She has also worked for Knox County Schools and even had a brief stint here with the City, almost 30 years ago.
Drummond is quickly getting acclimated and making great strides in getting this re-established department up to full-speed, including starting the reclassification process. Remember, the deadline for employees to file for reclassification is Friday, Feb. 5.
As you may recall, the City's HR Department was consolidated with Civil Service in 1986. Re-establishing a Human Resources Department and separating it from Civil Service makes each stronger with their respective roles.
Civil Service staff can now focus squarely on ensuring personnel actions are based on merit, while HR will assure that employees and managers get the training, career development, recruitment assistance and workplace support they need.
We understand that with the addition of Human Resources, many City employees are asking which department to turn to for certain needs and issues: HR, Civil Service or Benefits? We are actively working on a guide that will help all City employees navigate each department.
Please keep an eye out for that instructional guide in the near future and in the meantime, welcome Drummond back to the City.
