2020 By the Numbers For most Knoxville families, 2020 was a year of uncertainty.

City government likewise faced more than its share of unprecedented new challenges, to be sure.

Creating pandemic relief resources to keep Knoxville families safe and to support businesses, employees and City staff was Job No. 1 for a new Mayor and a new administrative team.

Seeking fresh perspectives and reimagining policing amidst rising national racial tensions was a crucially important undertaking.

The crippling summer malware attack seemed to make everything more difficult.

But apart from crises management, much was accomplished in 2020.

“People looked to us for help, for assurance, for reliability – and we responded,” Mayor indya Kincannon said simply.

The Communications Department has put together a new-look Year in Review 2020 summary, a by-the-numbers infographic by Graphic Artist Dan Frye.

Did you know 255 affordable-housing apartment units were completed in 2020 with City assistance, and that another $7.5 million is budgeted to support affordable housing in 2021?

Were you aware that 120,878 meals were served at Parks and Recreation-staffed sites?

Or did you realize that Public Service crews picked up 31,433 tons of brush and leaves?
