On Thursday, April 1, 2021, at 1 p.m. Mayor Indya Kincannon, City of Knoxville Poet Laureate Rhea Carmon, Knoxville Area Transit staff, City staff and others will launch Poetry in Motion, a local project celebrating National Poetry Month with pop-up poetry performances at transit stops.
Throughout the month of April, the City of Knoxville and Knoxville Area Transit (KAT) will mark National Poetry Month with Poetry in Motion, a project bringing poetry to the people led by City of Knoxville Poet Laureate Rhea Carmon.
At Thursday’s event, Mayor Indya Kincannon will speak and introduce Carmon, who will read the first Poetry in Motion piece to begin the month-long celebration of the written and spoken word.
On Mondays and Fridays in April, a variety of local poets will hold pop-up performances at transit stops.
Also, area residents should keep an eye out for Poetry in Motion billboards, featuring poems by Carmon and previous Poet Laureates R.B. Morris and Marilyn Kallet.
Photos and videos of performances will be shared on social media using the #PoetryInMotion hashtag.
