Has your bike been in the garage too long? Do you want to know how to get from downtown to Ijams Nature Center or Caswell Park without getting in a car? Come down to Market Square for one of two beginner bikes rides offered during Smart Trips Week. Both rides are free of charge and open to all ages.
The Sunday Bike Ride is April 30th at 2 p.m. and goes from Market Square to Ijams Nature Center, using the new Riverside Greenway and Will Skelton Greenway extension. Monday's Beginner Bike Ride starts at 6:15 p.m. and goes from Market Square to Caswell Park and Parkridge neighborhood. Helmets are required for these rides.
The Beginner Bike Rides are part of Smart Trips Week, from April 29 to May 6, which includes the Commuter Challenge. The Commuter Challenge is open to anyone who is willing to carpool, ride the bus, bike or walk to work at least once during Smart Trips Week. In return, challenge participants save money, help improve air quality, reduce traffic congestion, and are entered into a raffle for some great prizes donated by local businesses.
