The Knoxville Police Department (KPD) will join forces with citizens, community groups, businesses and local officials to mark the 24th Annual National Night Out. Nationally over 35 million people are expected to participate in America's night out against crime on Tuesday, August 7, 2007.
The KPD's Safety Education Unit is working with dozens of neighborhood watch organizations along with other community groups to prepare for the night out against crime. Many of these groups will be hosting crime prevention block parties, cookouts, safety fairs, and neighborhood meetings.
National Night Out is designed to:
1.Heighten crime, drug, and violence prevention awareness;2.Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs;3.Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships;4.Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organzied and fighting back.
