One of Knoxville's most visible Christmas in the City events comes to life November 23, 2007 during the Celebration of Lights.
Up On the Rooftops features over 500 light trees that illuminate Knoxville's skyline during the Holidays. The roof top trees will go on at 6:00 p.m. Friday November 23. This will take place during the tree lighting ceremony when Mayor Haslam turns the lights on the First Tennessee Foundation tree that will illuminate Downtown Knoxville. Lights will be on until 8:00 a.m. each morning if possible. Businesses are encouraged to participate in this uniquely Knoxville event by purchasing or building their own light trees.
This program has grown from a mere 11 trees in 1995 to over 500 trees in 2006. With the support of Knoxville businesses this holiday tradition will grow with each passing year. For information regarding the Up On the Rooftops program and the different tree options or for more Christmas in the City facts please call the City of Knoxville's Office of Special Events at (865) 215-4248.
