The City of Knoxville's Solid Waste Section is helping sponsor America Recycles Day (ARD) in Knoxville for Knoxville and Knox County residents. The America Recycles Day event will take place from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., Saturday, November 14th, at the new Earth Fare store, at 40 N Forest Park Blvd. just off Kingston Pike in Bearden.
The theme for this year's event is
"Get a Crush on Recycling!"
Residents who bring five pounds of aluminum cans or 150 aluminum cans will be able to exchange them for "The Crusher" (an aluminum can crusher) from the Knoxville America Recycles Day Committee while supplies last.
City and county residents can also register on site during the event and take the ARD pledge to recycle during the coming year for an opportunity to win one of 10 Crushers being given away by the Knoxville America Recycles Day Committee. Individuals can also try to win one based on their skill at a bean bag toss-type contest using aluminum cans.
Other giveaways and collections happening at Earth Fare during the "Get a Crush on Recycling!" event include:
Alcoa will be giving away 26-gallon recycling bins while they last.
The City of Knoxville Police Department with the State of Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation, and UT Student Pharmacists Association will be collecting unwanted medications.
The City of Knoxville and Knox County Solid Waste along with the County Health Department will be conducting a used household thermometer exchange.
