A special ceremony was held today as an observance of the anniversary of the September 11, 2001, attacks in New York City, Washington, D.C., and Pennsylvania.
A procession led by a horse drawn fire engine led local family members of 9-11 victims, firefighters, police officers and dignitaries from Market Street to the 9-11 Memorial on the City County Building lawn.
Timothy Aaron Haviland, Rob Lenoir and Tony Karnes were all men with Knoxville and Knox County ties who died in New York City on September 11, 2001. The sisters of Tony Karnes attended the special ceremony and placed flowers at the 9-11 Memorial.
A special prayer was held by First Baptist Church Knoxville Pastor Dr. David Lovett.
A bagpiper played "Amazing Grace" to end the ceremony.
