The City of Knoxville's Public Service Department will be hosting a series of informational meetings this month to update residents on the new curbside recycling program that will begin later this year.

The City of Knoxville has been working on a plan for a single-stream, curbside recycling program in response to numerous requests to increase recycling options for its citizens, and in an attempt to reduce landfill use.These recycling update meetings will provide an opportunity for residents to learn about the project, plans for rolling out the program this fall, and provide an opportunity for public comment about the plan.

The recycling service would be at no additional charge to city residents who want to participate in the effort. Using a single-stream curbside model means that residential recycling would be especially easy. Residents would no longer have to separate recyclable items - all recyclable materials will go in a single container.

As part of the plan, residents will have the opportunity to obtain are cycling cart for all recyclable materials. The city's contractor will pick up the recyclables curb-side once every two weeks.
