Knoxville Utilities Board and its contractors will temporarily close a short section of the Third Creek Greenway beginning on Monday, June 6, and lasting through Saturday, June 11, (weather permitting) to facilitate access to the sewer system as part of the ongoing PACE 10 wastewater collection system improvement project in this area.
The section of greenway that will be closed includes the area where the trail route runs under the Neyland Drive bridge at the mouth of Third Creek, the portion of trail that crosses the bridge over Third Creek, and the trail spur located near the west bank of the creek.
Barriers and signs will be placed at each location to clearly indicate the section of trail that is closed.
The wastewater improvement project in this area, which began in spring 2010, includes the replacement of 2,100 feet of wastewater trunkline along Third Creek. KUB is also constructing a 6.5 million gallon wastewater storage tank at the west end of the Kuwahee Wastewater Treatment Plant and building a pump station near where Third Creek empties into the Tennessee River. This project is scheduled for completion by late June 2011, weather permitting.
