Experience the beautiful holiday lights of downtown, 4th & Gill and Old North Knoxville by bicycle as part of the 5th Annual Tour de Lights.
The family-friendly, fun ride, sponsored by the City of Knoxville and the TPO Bicycle Program, will leave from Market Square (near the stage) at 7 p.m., Thursday, December 15th.
Participants are encouraged to get creative with lights, seasonal decorations and/or costumes and there will be prizes be awarded for best decorated person, best decorated bicycle and best decorated helmet. Judging starts at 6 p.m.
All ages and skill levels are welcome on this easy, short ride, which covers about five miles. Hot chocolate and refreshments will be provided by the Mast General Store and Three Rivers Market.
The event - which began in 2007 with about 200 riders - has grown to include as many as 450 bicyclists, though the number varies according to the weather.
Free bike safety checks will be offered from 6 p.m. until the ride starts. Helmets and front white lights are required. More information about the 2011 Tour de Lights is available at
