The Knoxville Fire Department added a new fire engine to its fleet at Fire Station #10 located at 2911 Sevier Ave. on Wednesday, June 22.
A 2011 Quint, manufactured by Ferrara Apparatus Company in Holden, Louisiana was added to South Knoxville's Station #10. This is the first of its kind to be purchased by Knoxville. What makes a Quint unique is the fact that it is an aerial unit and a fire pumping unit all rolled into one.
This firefighting rig features five functions:
a 77' aerial ladder
500 gallon booster tank
pump
ground ladders
firefighting and hydrant hoses.
KFD anxiously awaited the five month building process of the Quint and was able to monitor the progress through Ferrara's online viewing site.
The City is very proud of the new truck and know it will provide years of service to the citizens of Knoxville.
There was a traditional christening ceremony, as the older more seasoned outgoing apparatus lifted its nozzles and emptied the content of the booster tank onto the newer, younger, incoming Quint.
