The contractor continues to make progress on the bridge demolition, concentrating their efforts on the span above the eastbound side of Neyland Drive.
Work should continue there for a few more weeks, before diverting traffic and commencing operations over the westbound lane (stadium side). It is important to note that when this does take place, Locust Street will be closed for thru traffic to Neyland Drive.
There will be a special media alert sent out at least a week before this change occurs, so that motorists can plan for an alternate route.
Per our contract, all Neyland Drive traffic closures will cease by August 19, 2011, and all 4 lanes will be open again at that time.
Right now the greenway below Henley is closed to all pedestrian and bike traffic, but it should be open again as soon as the contractor moves his demolition to the westbound span over Neyland Drive.
Bridge reconstruction continues on the approach spans on each side of the river.
