The bridge demolition is complete over the eastbound lanes of Neyland Drive. Traffic has been shifted to that side, with one lane running in each direction. This will allow the contractor to start disassembling the bridge over the westbound side.
As always, drivers are advised to take precaution when traveling through this area and pay close attention to the directional signage. The speed limit is signed and will be enforced at 35 MPH. One major change that you will notice is the closure of Locust Street to thru traffic, so drivers will not be able to access Neyland Drive (westbound) from Locust Street.
One alternate route would be to stay on Hill Avenue east by Blount Mansion, and take a left onto State Street. Go through the Main Street intersection until you almost arrive at the Cumberland Avenue intersection and take a right. At the end of this street, take a right onto Central, which will take you straight to Neyland Drive (westbound). This phase of the demolition will last until August 17th. At that time, all lanes of Neyland Drive will reopen.
The Greenway is expected to be reopened to pedestrians in a couple of weeks, after the contractor removes a few more bridge members over the walkway and railroad.
