Knoxville Mayor Daniel Brown and Police Chief David Rausch honored Sgt. Lynn Thompson who is retiring after serving 40 years with the department's Reserve Unit. Sgt. Thompson was recognized as the Reserve Officer of the Year in 2008.
Chief Rausch said that during Sgt. Thompson's service from 1971 through 2011, he volunteered more than 15,000 hours of service to the citizens of Knoxville. Sgt. Thompson was always willing to volunteer his time and service in supporting several special events each year.
Chief Rausch said, "Throughout his career, Sgt. Thompson played a major role in improving the safety of the community through his volunteer work. More than $230,000.00 was saved by the city as a direct result of his work."
"We thank him for his service to our community and wish him all the best in his retirement," Chief Rausch concluded.
