KUB crews worked around the clock throughout the weekend and electricity has now been restored to many of its customers. As of this morning, 1615 customers remain without power following severe storms last Tuesday (June 21) and Friday (June 24). More than 127,000 customers were without power at the height of the June 21 storm, the largest outage in KUB's history. Outages from these two storms continue to be scattered throughout KUB's service area, with the largest concentrations in North Knoxville, Fountain City, Halls, and along Western Avenue.
If you are currently experiencing a power outage, please call KUB at 524-2911.
KUB and contract crews worked throughout last week and this weekend to complete jobs that restored service to more than 125,000 customers. Crews are now concentrating on jobs that will return service to smaller numbers of customers. The remaining work is both complex and time consuming.
Restoration Priority
Work that remains throughout the system will continue to be prioritized to the extent possible to restore customers who have been without power the longest. About 581 jobs are pending to restore service to only one customer per job. These single customer jobs can take from 15 minutes to 8 hours each to complete. Every job is different. A typical line job for the remaining 122 multiple customer jobs can take up to 4-6 hours to repair and the jobs requiring a pole replacement take a minimum of 6-8 hours. KUB is advising customers who are currently without power to expect outages to continue into mid-week.
Customer Equipment Repairs
Customers who have damage to their electric service equipment should contact a qualified electrician to make repairs before KUB can reconnect the customer's electricity. In addition, the customer should contact KUB to lower the service line (at no charge to the customer) so the customer's contractor can safely perform the necessary work. Important Safety Messages
Because of the large number of crews working on power restoration, including crews who are unfamiliar with our area, it is extremely important that they be able to focus on doing their work as safely as possible. The public is asked not to approach crews in the field while they are working. Customers with questions should call KUB at 524-2911. Also, customers are reminded to stay at least 25-feet from the work area for their safety and the safety of crews. This will help ensure everyone's safety and allow for more timely restoration.
KUB also advises customers to stay well away from any downed power lines as they may be energized. Also be mindful that trees leaning on power lines, utility poles, and related equipment can conduct electricity, and contact should be avoided. Trees and limbs on the ground may be in contact with energized power lines and may pose a threat as well.
