The staff of the Police Advisory Review Committee hosted an appreciation luncheon Thursday for PARC members.
Mayor Brown visited the luncheon to thank each member for their service to the city.
The purpose of PARC is to strengthen the relationship between the members of the Knoxville Police Department and the citizens they serve through an independent review of police actions.
PARC reviews incidents involving police action following the conclusion of the Internal Affairs investigations. Citizen can either register formal or anonymous complaints with PARC's executive director.
This committee consists of seven members. Members must posses a reputation for fairness, integrity and responsibility and have demonstrated an active interest in public affairs and service, be qualified to vote in Knox County and not be a current employee of any governmental body except those employed in the field of education.
Members are appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by Council. Terms are for a three-year period. Members cannot serve more than two consecutive terms.
