The City of Knoxville will reduce the speed limit along Kingston Pike from its intersection with Neyland Drive to the entrance of the Western Plaza Shopping Center on Thursday, October 6.
The new speed limit for that stretch of Kingston will be 40 mph. The current speed limit is 45 mph.
The city's traffic engineering department will install the new signs on Thursday morning.
The city's Residential Neighborhood Traffic Safety Committee asked for the lower speed limit in April at the request of residents along the road.
A study by the traffic engineering department determined that the 40 mph limit would be reasonable based on the characteristics of the roadway.
