A forest of lighted trees floating on a lake will welcome visitors to Chilhowee Park, where guests can celebrate the holiday season from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30th, as part of "Christmas in the City."
Presented by Comcast, the winter wonderland at Chilhowee Park features musical performances, free pictures with Santa Claus, hot cocoa and more for children of all ages.
Actor/singer Brandon Gibson will kick off the festivities with a selection of Christmas songs. Gibson, who has been acting on East Tennessee stages for several years, is an accomplished vocalist who will sing prior to Santa's arrival via train.
In addition to hot cocoa and marshmallow roasting, Austin-East High School's Culinary Arts Department will supply free goodies in Mrs. Claus' bakeshop. The students will also help kids to decorate one of three gingerbread houses on display.
Other sponsors for Comcast Christmas at Chilhowee Park include WVLT Channel 8, Knoxville News Sentinel, Q93.1 FM, Krispy Kreme, Kroger, Rita's and the Salvation Army.
Additional upcoming "Christmas in the City" activities include:
PARADE
The WIVK and McGhee Tyson Airport Christmas Parade. On Friday, Dec. 7th, the parade will run through the streets of downtown Knoxville beginning at 7 p.m. One of Knoxville's favorite Christmas activities, the parade will consist of decorated vehicles and floats, marching bands and dancers, and a special appearance from Santa Claus himself.
WINDOW DECORATING CONTEST
A window-decorating contest. More than two dozen downtown businesses have decorated window displays that the public can vote on through Dec. 14.
