City of Knoxville Mayor Madeline Rogero, Knox County Mayor Tim Burchett, Joy of Music School's Executive Director Francis Graffeo and others participated in a ribbon cutting Thursday for the official renaming of the former Travis Avenue to James Dick Lane.
Mr. James A. Dick, Sr was the school's founder and passed away last year. His wife, Mrs. Marilyn Dick, was the guest of honor and helped in the ribbon cutting. Other members of the Dick family were on hand, as well as other officials from city and county governments.
The Joy of Music School is a nonprofit organization providing free music lessons for children who cannot afford them. All teachers are volunteers. The School also provides instruments, music and supplies at no cost to students.
