Artists and volunteers from the Parkridge neighborhood and the Community Design Center will begin work Saturday, June 8 on a four-panel mural on sections of the concrete wall supporting the North 6th Avenue, under the Interstate 40 overpass.
This work is being done with the approval of the City of Knoxville and the Tennessee Department of Transportation.
It is partly funded through a challenge grant from the City's Parks and Recreation Department.
That section of 6th Avenue will be closed for the duration of the day. This Saturday's work will largely consist of priming the four panels.
Work is expected to continue on the mural for the next several Saturdays.
One section will be emblazoned with the words "Knoxville Tn," and the other three will spotlight the three surrounding neighborhoods: Parkridge, 4th and Gill and Old North.
