KEC Board Announces Resignation of Executive Director

Posted: 09/06/2013
KECThe Board of Directors for the Knoxville Entrepreneur Center announced today that Executive Director Mike Carroll will resign from his duties at the center to refocus on opportunities within his existing businesses.

Carroll, who helped to launch KEC and has seen the center become a robust business accelerator within the region, will continue to contribute to KEC as an advisor.

"This has been an awesome opportunity, and I couldn't be more proud of the growth KEC has had since its opening," Carroll said. "But at heart, I'm an entrepreneur. I had a deep longing to return to my own businesses and develop ideas that will eventually grow and prosper."

Under Carroll's direction, KEC has coached nearly 100 budding entrepreneurs and held a variety of events to promote the entrepreneurial spirit. Most recently, Carroll wrapped up the inaugural Business Boot Camp with 10 graduates.

Some of the startups from that program include: RoadMap to Reading, a company that offers apps and software for preschoolers; The Unfood, food products based on pea protein; Retaillus, a point of sale systems for small and mid-size businesses; Little Fishkopp, sleepware for children; Knoxville Music Warehouse, a clearinghouse for live music performances; Day2Night, convertible fashions; and AgentBright.com, a contact resource management for real estate agents.

"There is no doubt that Mike is the kind of entrepreneur that inspires others, and we are grateful for the time he has invested in the KEC," said Board Member Christi Branscom. "We feel confident about the programs he has implemented and believe the center will continue to inspire, encourage, and enable entrepreneurs by adding value to their business."

Carroll's resignation is effective Oct. 4. The KEC Board will manage the selection of a new executive director.

Located on Market Square, the KEC is a business accelerator that host meetings and networking events focused on small business startups and growth. The Industrial Development Board, through the City of Knoxville, funds the project along with generous grants and donations.
