Today Mayor Madeline Rogero, Tony Spezia - Covenant Health President and CEO, Jason Altman - Knoxville Marathon Race Director, and others announced the last minute details for the Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon which happens this weekend.
The ninth annual Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon promises a full weekend of world-class races, fitness education, inspiring programs and fun activities for race participants and the general public.
The marathon is actually six events. The Covenant Kids Run will be held Saturday beginning at 6 p.m. All races start on the Clinch Ave. Bridge over World's Fair Park. The 26.2 mile marathon, 13.1 mile half-marathon, four-person and two-person relays as well as 3.1 mile(5K) run will begin at 7:30 a.m Sunday.
New events and new venues in 2013 offer an even better experience for participants and fans. The marathon has added a two-person relay for the full marathon. Plus, a team of wheelchair athletes who race in rim chairs will participate. The 50 Ability Team is racing in 50 marathons in 50 states in 50 weeks to increase public awareness of the importance of making recreational activities available to people with disabilities. ROAD CLOSURES DURING THE MARATHON
Clinch Ave between Henley St. and 11th street will be closed from 2:00 p.m. Saturday - 2:30 p.m. Sunday for the Marathon. There will be Temporary No Parking on Clinch Ave between Henley Street and 16th Street from Saturday at 12:00 p.m. - Sunday at 2:30 p.m. Towing will begin on Clinch Ave between Henley and 16th Street at 5:00 a.m. Sunday, April 7.
