October 10, 2014 - The City of Knoxville this morning terminated two employees following an investigation into allegations of minor theft, scrapping policy violations and other issues at the Solid Waste Management Facility, 1033 Elm St. in North Knoxville.
The employees, Waste Facility Manager David Newman and Foreman Teddy Stout, were terminated this morning by Public Service Director David Brace after completing standard employee pre-disciplinary hearings.
The investigation is still on-going, and additional disciplinary actions may occur over the next seven to 10 days.
Newman and Stout were removing items dropped off at the facility's dump pit and then taking them for personal use, Brace determined.
"Accountability matters at all levels of local government, and stealing, regardless of how minor, is unacceptable," Brace said. "This incident is unfortunate but is a good example of the City taking swift action when policy violations are reported."
