October 6, 2014 - Beginning Oct. 6 Bell & Associates will begin the demolition of the G & R Automotive Building near the entrance to Fort Dickerson Park. The demolition is part of an improvement project for the Fort Dickerson Park entrance.
The E. Luke Greene Co., a subcontractor, will begin abatement of the building as soon as today (Monday, Oct. 6). Once the abatement is complete and a demolition permit is approved, Bell & Associates will begin the actual demolition.
City Council approved the contract with Bell & Associates on June 10. The Aslan Foundation officially deeded the G & R Automotive property to the City on July 31.
The removal of the building will allow more landscaping to the new Fort Dickerson Park entrance.
Meanwhile, the $1 million Fort Dickerson Roadway Realignment Project should be completed in spring 2015. This project will realign Fort Dickerson Road with Woodlawn Pike and includes about 475 feet of new two-lane road with sidewalk and signalization.
